Review and Update of the Hydrology of Pretura del Molino Dam (Badajoz), Spain, for UTE Conservación de Presas III – 2019

The work was carried out between January and March 2019 and included:

  • Extreme value analysis of updated rainfall data from weather stations in the area.
  • Development of a hydrologic model using HEC-HMS and estimation of reservoir inflow floods for return periods ranging from 2.33 to 10,000 years.
  • Reservoir flood routing analysis and assessment of the dam’s hydrologic adequacy in accordance with the RTSPE (1996) and the recommendations of Technical Guide No. 2.
  • Update of the risk model developed for Pretura del Molino Dam using iPresas software, including analysis of the effects of the updated hydrology on risk and of potential improvements to the dam’s hydrologic adequacy.
